Project:

SMA CP – Stack CT Replacements

Multiple site SMA CP central inverters CT replacements

LT Energy Services has conducted a widespread programme of CT (Current Transformer) replacements across multiple solar sites featuring SMA CP central inverters, specifically those utilising Hummels stack configurations. Although not a single-site deployment, this ongoing maintenance initiative reflects our proactive and strategic approach to reducing inverter failures and minimising costly downtime.

Each SMA Hummels inverter stack houses two CTs, with a total of six CTs per unit. These components are critical for measuring current accurately within the inverter’s power conversion process. Over time, CTs are subject to wear, degradation, and failure, leading to frequent operational interruptions and significant generation losses. LT Energy Services replaces all six CTs in affected inverters with high-quality new components, ensuring that current measurement systems are restored to optimal functionality.
To reinforce the reliability of the upgrade, firmware within the inverter systems is simultaneously updated. This firmware upgrade addresses known issues that have historically contributed to repetitive CT failures. By installing both hardware and software improvements during a single service window, we offer a cost-effective solution with long-term performance benefits.

The project demonstrates LT Energy’s commitment to preventative maintenance strategies that enhance performance and prolong the life of key assets. Our expertise in central inverter technology, particularly SMA systems, allows us to provide tailored solutions that directly address known pain points in the field.

By proactively identifying and replacing faulty CTs and deploying the latest firmware, we are helping asset owners reduce operational risk and improve inverter reliability across their portfolios. This preventative approach not only protects energy yield but also significantly reduces future maintenance costs, making it a valuable investment in ongoing solar PV system performance.
